Honorable Mention Kitchens
Inspiration for the redesign of this kitchen came from an old stone farmhouse in southern France. A balanced composition of traditional and modern elements emerged. The rich palette gives tonal and textural contrast and creates a sense of solidity and permanence.
The owners envisioned a social environment where they could enjoy cooking together in the company of family and friends. Serious cooking equipment was a must. The challenge was to design a kitchen that lived larger than the floorprint of the available space.
The layout was reconfigured from the former peninsula to an island, and the range wall length was extended. Existing open bookcases were fitted with doors to provide pantry storage. The kitchen now includes efficient cooking, prep, baking, and clean-up zones.
The new lighting design provides a pleasant layering of light through general, task, and accent fixtures. Four new skylights were added for natural light.
